EMPHNET Hosts Second MED – HEALTH Stakeholders Meeting
EMPHNET hosted the second MEDiterranean Public Health Alliance (MED – HEALTH) Stakeholders Meeting in Amman, Jordan on July 5, 2018. The meeting aimed at creating linkage and synergy between the project’s universities (Zarqa University and Mutah University) and main stakeholders in Jordan.
Dr. Mohannad Al-Nsour, the Executive Director of EMPHNET, delivered the opening remarks whereby he reviewed outcomes of the first stakeholders meeting with a brief on the follow up efforts. Keynotes of Dr. Al-Nsour’s remarks also focused on the sustainability of our efforts in the long term.
In addition, he highlighted EMPHNET’s role as a facilitator of this collaborative effort with universities, emphasizing readiness for any further support to ensure successful accomplishment of its goals. "Even though our role in the project is relatively limited, yet EMPHNET takes pride in contributing to such efforts that target institutionalized, sustained flow of public health professionals to the health sector in the region," he added.
Dr. Al-Nsour also pointed out that "Jordan, and the region at large, has an apparent gap between health institutions; thus, this meeting bears a resemblance to the perfect answer to this chronic challenge by providing an opportunity for intra-sector networking."
The representative of Erasmus + (Jordan Office) delivered a presentation on EU funded projects and their impact on higher education in Jordan, giving a special focus on the necessity to utilize and promote the mobility opportunities that are available for graduate and undergraduate students through these projects.
Furthermore, representatives of Mutah University and Zarqa University provided an update on the new Public Health Management Masters program and shed light on the need to further promote the program to the community of practice, and hence increase the uptake of graduates in the local job market.
During the meeting, other presentations were delivered by representatives of Najah University and the Jordan Ministry of Health highlighting the public health education efforts, challenges, and inspirations within their respective institutions.
The participants’ discussions covered different approaches to increase the public health sector attractiveness. They also agreed on the necessity to streamline awareness efforts among students and communities on public health both as a profession and an academic discipline.
Two scientific visits to Pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in Jordan
Faculty of pharmacy organized two scientific visits for undergraduate students to two Pharmaceutical Manufacturing companies: Joriver and Dar AlDawa companies.
Production team of each company clarified for students the practical production process of solid, semisolid and liquid dosage forms.
It is worthy to mention that Faculty of Pharmacy organizes two scientific visits each year to different manufacturing companies.

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Wadi opened the virtual Pharmacy and the museum of medicinal
plants in the College of Pharmacy, in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of
Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Nancy Hakouz on March, 2016.
Dr. Jamila Da'abas who is responsible for plants and herbals explained the preparation
of a museum of dried plants due to high linkage between herbals and pharmaceutical
drugs found in pharmaceutical markets.
On the other hand, Dr. Mohammed Abu Asab who is responsible of pharmaceutical training
and practice of pharmaceutical legislation clarified that virtual pharmacy purpose
is to simulate the process of drugs dispensing and management supported with a special
program to teach students how to manage drugs inside the pharmacy along with patient

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Wadi opened the scientific activities of the fourth day of
the College of Pharmacy entitled "Pharmaceutical Practice, Good Practice and Better
Health" in the presence of Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof.
Dr. Nancy Hakouz. She explained that choosing pharmaceutical practice as a topic
for the scientific day is very important due to the outstanding role of pharmacists
in helping patients and serving society. This would improve the reputation of the
profession and supports the preparation of an outstanding generation of pharmacists
in various fields.
The scientific day included scientific posters that were prepared by undergraduate
pharmacy students. An exhibition for pharmaceutical companies and pharmacists was
carried out. A group of valuable lectures were also presented by specialists in
pharmacy practice field.
Third Scientific day of the College of Pharmacy at Zarqa University (Plants as treatments
in alternative medicine)
31st of March, 2015
President Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Wadi opened the third scientific day for the College
of Pharmacy at the University, entitled "The use of plants as treatments in alternative
medicine", sponsored by Seba Med Medical Company, in the presence of the President
of the Board of Directors of Zarqa Corporation for Education and Investment (owner
of Zarqa University), Dr. Mahmoud Abu shaereh, and a number of pharmacists and specialists.
Prof. Dr. Al-Wadi confirmed in his speech that the profession of pharmacy is responsible
for ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical preparations. Vice president
and Dean of the College of Pharmacy Professor Dr. Nancy Hakouz said that medicinal
plants have proven their efficiency and success in the treatment of many diseases.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Talal Abu-Rjaih from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University
of Jordan presented a lecture about "optimal use of medicinal plants" and mentioned
that there is a growing interest in medicinal plants worldwide with 40% of modern
pharmaceuticals being derivatives of natural compounds.
Second Scientific day of the College of Pharmacy at Zarqa University (Information
Technology in Pharmacy)

Under the patronage of President Dr. Mahmoud Al-Wadi, the scientific activities
of the second day of the College of Pharmacy entitled "Information Technology in
Pharmacy" were presented, in the presence of Vice president and Dean of the Faculty
of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Nancy Hakouz, and with the participation of a number of specialists.
The scientific day highlighted the most important developments in the field of pharmaceutical
information technology with the help of researchers from different disciplines,
emphasizing the importance of communication between researchers and universities
who are partners of the educational process in the field of pharmacy for the success
of scientific research.
A number of workshops on informatics in pharmacy were discussed and presented by
a group of lecturers that are experts in this field. Furthermore, an exhibition
of pharmaceutical companies and pharmacy was held for the purpose of students training.

with the participation of a number of pharmacists and Jordanian universities, the

Highly experienced lecturers introduced various work areas that are available for
graduates of college of Pharmacy either in industry or hospitals or community pharmacies
