The Relationship between Perceived Organizational Support and Job Performance among Jordanian Critical Care Nurses in Irbid Governorate Hospitals

Background: Perceived organizational support is necessary for a health care team, specifically, for nursing staff to improve the quality of care provided to the populations. Aims: The present study aims to identify the level of perceived organizational support and its relationship with job performance among Jordanian critical care nurses. Methods: A descriptive, cross sectional correlational survey was used. A randomly sample of 133 Jordanian registered nurses working in intensive care units from two educational hospitals in Irbid was participated. Data were collected using the Survey of Perceived Organizational Support, and the Six -Dimensional Scale of Nursing Performance tool. Findings: Findings demonstrated a good level of Perceived Organizational Support and a good level of job performance. Also, a significant moderate positive relationship between of Perceived Organizational Support and job performance was found, r =. .321, p = .01. Conclusions: Administrators and policy makers can pay more attention to improve the level of Perceived Organizational Support and consequently the level of job performance among Jordanian nurses working in the critical care areas to improve the quality of care provided to the populations.
