About the Department
Civil Engineering concerns with the study of conception, design, construction and maintenance of large public and private projects. Civil engineers design, build, and maintain bridges, highways, railways, tunnels, airports, dams, water treatment and distribution systems and large buildings, along with many other structures.
Environmental considerations, such as water supply, pollution control and preservation of soil quality, are also a part of the course of study. A bachelor degree in Civil Engineering represents a foundation of basic skills in science and math, a breadth of engineering fundamentals and proficiency in a core of discipline-specific topics.
To complete the degree in Civil Engineering, each student needs to complete a series of courses providing competency in four areas of proficiency.
