Educational and Social Advisory
As part of the Deanship of Student Affairs’ commitment to supporting students’ psychological well-being, the Educational and Social Counseling Office was established to assist students in making sound decisions regarding their academic specialization and in developing the skills necessary for academic and social success. The Office provides its services to all University students, not only to those experiencing difficulties or problems. Its objectives are derived from, and aligned with, the University’s philosophy and goals, the broader objectives of higher education in Jordan, and students’ developmental needs.
The Office’s objectives can be summarized as follows:
- To equip students with general strategies for dealing with various problems and challenges and to strengthen their decision-making abilities.
- To provide educational counseling services, including assisting students in overcoming academic and study-related difficulties and improving their study skills.
- To provide educational and career guidance services aimed at helping students make appropriate decisions regarding academic specializations and employment opportunities.
- To support students’ psychological, social, and family adjustment by developing skills such as independent thinking and effective communication.
- To develop counseling programs and educational guidance materials to help address students’ problems and support their personal and academic development.
Principles of Counseling Services
The counseling services are based on the following principles:
- Counseling is an educational process aimed at developing positive attitudes, habits, and skills that promote psychological well-being and personal adjustment. It begins with identifying the factors that contribute to adjustment difficulties and working to address them.
- The purpose of counseling is not limited to resolving the immediate problem; it also seeks to help the counselee develop the ability to solve future problems independently.
- Counseling is a voluntary process that respects the counselee’s freedom and right to make personal decisions.
- The counselor is committed to examining the counselee’s concerns from all relevant perspectives and making every reasonable effort to provide appropriate support and guidance.
- The counselor maintains the confidentiality of the counselee’s information throughout all stages of the counseling process.
