Under the patronage of His Royal
Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal, Dr. Hashem Mohammed Omar Khreis from the
Faculty of Arts, Department of History, at Zarqa University participated in the
16th International Congress on the History and Archaeology of
Jordan, held at the University of Athens, Greece, from September 22nd
to 26th, 2025.
Dr. Khreis presented a research
paper entitled "The Discovery of an Iron Age Pottery Statue in the Tell
Zar'a Area, Located 4 km South of the City of Umm Qais in Northern Jordan".
The paper aimed to shed light on identity, rituals, and daily life at the Tell
Zar'a site in particular, and in Jordan in general, by conducting scientific
comparisons with other archaeological sites in various regions of the Levant.
In his paper, Khreis indicated that
this discovery provides valuable insights into artistic traditions and social
practices. and religious symbolic expressions that characterized Iron Age
societies throughout the Levant, enriching historical and archaeological
studies related to the region.
At the conclusion of the conference,
appreciation shields were exchanged between Dr. Hashem Mohammed Omar Khreis and
Prof. Dr. Christos Karagiannis, Vice President of the University of Athens for
Administrative Affairs, affirming the depth of academic and cultural
cooperation between the participating universities.
