The Faculty of Information Technology at Zarqa University secured fourth place in the North Amman Entrepreneurship Hackathon, organized by the IRADA Program Initiative in cooperation with Amman Arab University, along with a number of national institutions and organizations supporting entrepreneurship and innovation.
Zarqa University was represented by students Mohammad Tawalbeh, Qamar Harzallah, Dareen Dawood, and Mousa Al-Maharmeh. The team achieved this distinction with its entrepreneurial project, “Dawwer”, reflecting the creativity of Zarqa University students and their ability to develop innovative ideas and transform them into viable entrepreneurial projects.
The achievement followed a highly competitive selection process that attracted 169 participants. Of these, 30 participants advanced to the next stage, while 14 participants reached the final round. The projects were evaluated by specialized judging panels according to a set of criteria that included innovation, feasibility, expected impact, and the ability to provide practical solutions with added value.
Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology at Zarqa University, Dr. Hayel Khafajeh, stated that the achievement reflects the excellence of the University’s students and their ability to transform innovative ideas into promising entrepreneurial ventures. He noted that the team’s advancement to the final stage and its fourth-place finish demonstrate the advanced level of the Faculty’s students in the fields of innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship.
He added that the Faculty is committed to providing an educational environment that encourages creativity and enables students to apply their academic knowledge and skills in developing innovative solutions that respond to the needs of society and the labor market. He emphasized that participation in hackathons and entrepreneurial competitions plays an important role in developing students’ personalities while strengthening their teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Khafajeh further noted that such participation provides students with valuable opportunities to compete at the national level, explore new ideas and experiences, and benefit from the expertise of specialists, entrepreneurs, and members of judging panels. This, he said, enhances their readiness to enter the labor market and opens broader opportunities for them to establish their own entrepreneurial ventures in the future.
He explained that the Faculty of Information Technology continues to support students with innovative ideas and projects by encouraging their participation in specialized competitions and events and by providing the academic support and guidance necessary to develop their ideas into viable projects with sustainable impact.
Khafajeh also praised the efforts of the organizers and supporters of the hackathon, stressing the importance of partnerships between universities, national institutions, and organizations concerned with entrepreneurship and innovation. Such partnerships, he noted, play a key role in creating a supportive environment for young people, identifying talent and potential, and promoting a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation within society.
This achievement comes as part of Zarqa University’s ongoing commitment to supporting creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship and to empowering its students to participate actively in national competitions and events. These efforts contribute to developing students’ practical skills and strengthening their ability to create innovative solutions that serve the community and address the evolving needs of the labor market.
