The Faculty of Law at Zarqa University organized an awareness lecture on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, on combating drug abuse, entitled “Legal Challenges Facing Drug Control and the Effectiveness of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law in Curbing the Spread of This Phenomenon.” The lecture was delivered by Lieutenant Salti Khreisat from the Zarqa Anti-Narcotics Department.
The lecture aimed to highlight the key legal and practical challenges facing the competent authorities in combating drug-related crimes, as well as the role of national legislation in addressing offences involving narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. It also introduced students to the legal procedures followed in handling such cases, thereby strengthening their practical understanding and linking academic study with real-world application.
Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. Omar Al-Makhzoumi, emphasized that organizing such lectures reflects the Faculty’s commitment to enhancing students’ legal awareness and familiarizing them with the challenges facing society in the field of drug control. He stressed the importance of integrating legal, security, and community efforts to curb the spread of drugs and protect society, particularly young people.
He noted that combating drug-related crimes requires effective legislation and strict enforcement of the law, alongside promoting legal awareness and educating the public about the health, social, and economic consequences of drug abuse. He further emphasized the important responsibility of universities in raising students’ awareness and strengthening their role in confronting harmful social phenomena.
Al-Makhzoumi added that the lecture provided Law students with a valuable opportunity to gain insight into the practical aspects of drug-related crimes and benefit from the expertise of specialists in the field, contributing to broadening their legal knowledge and enhancing their ability to understand legislation in light of practical applications.
The lecture also featured discussions and interactive dialogue with students, addressing a range of questions related to the legal aspects of drug-related crimes, the procedures followed in dealing with such cases, and the importance of legal awareness and prevention in limiting the spread of drug abuse.
